Sioux Fall, SD to Wall, SD
We had a 4+ hours drive today. It was already 70 degrees at 8:00am and our destination was 75 degrees. As were were driving there were several signs for WALL DRUG. I thought they were unique so I took some pictures of their billboard signs along the way.
We stopped in Murdo, SD to charge Tessie. The super charger is at the Range Country Lodging. If we didn't already have a reservation in Wall, SD, we would have stayed here. The town has nothing but, lodge is very updated cabin style lodging. They showed us a room and we were very impressed. Clean, Roomy and felt very comfortable.
We stopped at the Minuteman Missile Nat'l Historic Site Center to get information on visiting the Delta-01 and Delta 09. The Delta-01 can be visited without reservations and closes at 3:00 and it's 1:00pm now. The Delta -09, you have to make reservation 48 hours in advance, so that one was out.
The docent that gave us a wealth of information at the Missile center basically planned our trip out for us to our final day destination of Wall, SD, which we followed her plan. She asked what brought us to SD and we told her our story. We were talking about charging Tessie and she told us that Wall just put in Tesla Charges. AWESOME!!! We had to pass on visiting the Delta-01 Missile site which would be closed by the time we got there so we drove onto the Badland's Nat'l Park. We took the Badlands loop road (Hwy 240), the Badlands is a National Park that is a rugged, eroded area of buttes, saw-toothed divides, dramatic canyons and spires. It occupies an area of 379 square miles and was designated a National Park in 1978.
After the Badlands, we arrived in Wall, SD and WALL DRUG is a town within Wall. They have everything the billboards mentioned along our trip. We found the new Tesla Chargers and today was the first day of operation which we found out from another Tesla owner who was charging. That was pretty lucky for us.
Since we are only staying one night, and tomorrow we are driving to see Mt Rushmore in the daytime, we wanted to see it illuminated at night. We left at 8:30pm and drove the 1hr 10 min, 76 miles one way to the Monument.
Phew...what a long day of travel. We estimated we drove over 500 miles today and 3 Tessie Charges.
