June 3, 2019 - Monday
LaCrosse, WI - Duluth, MN

We decided to head a little bit more North today up to Duluth, MN.  We stopped in Red Wing, MN to charge, but the hotel that has the chargers had a power outage which means we don't charge.  Oh no, we now have to find another charger.  That next charger will leave us 7% on our battery which left approx 26 miles on the car, that is to close of a call.  We got Tessie charged and continued our journey to Duluth.
Our hotel is located on a peninsula in Duluth and our room is a harbor view.  We are very close to the Duluth Canal where nearly 900 vessels arrive each year carrying coal, iron ore, grain limestone, cement, salt, wood pulp and equipment.  There are two types of vessels that come into the canal, "Lakers & Salties"  Ships that make the 2,342 mile trek from the Atlantic Ocean are called Salties.  Ships built to navigate the Great Lakes are called Lakers.  The largest U.S lakers are over 1,000 feet long.  Out hotel has posted the times when these vessels will be departing or arriving.  We were able to catch two of them.  The James S Barker and the American Century.  The bridge across the canal lifts straight up via a cable system on both sides.

Notice the waving green hand... HA HA

Feeling a bit tired from our long drive today, we went back to our hotel room where we pigged out on Salami, Cheese, Bread and drank a bottle to wine and crashed.
