Middleton, WI to LaCrosse, WI
We started our day with continuing to drive on the county roads to LaCrosse. It was such a beautiful drive through the various small towns and the weather was perfect. After about 2 hours, we arrived in LaCrosse, checked into our hotel. The bridge at the top left is the view from our room. When you cross the bridge, you will enter Minnesota, which we will do tomorrow.
We decided to do the River Walk, while walking, we spotted a Paddle Cruise boat on the waters. We walked to the berth of the boat and found out it just left for the 11:00am Lunch cruise. But, they do have a 1:30pm river cruise so we bought tickets for that cruise. Having time to spare, we drove up to the Grandad Bluff. This bluff was used to haul stone from a quarry down to the town via Railway to be used for housing construction. In the late 1800's there was a span of 10 years were the city was experiencing devastating downtown fires so the city established a local "fire limits", which required new buildings be constructed of stone or brick. The view from the bluff was breath taking. Looking over the Mississippi river is Minnesota. Time to get back to board the LaCrosse Cruise Paddle Boat.
We boarded the LaCrosse Cruise Paddle boat in Wisconsin and cruised into Minnesota. Wisconsin/Minnesota state line run through the Mississippi River. We were told the water levels are about 5' above normal levels which has caused some flooding. There is an active rotating Railroad bridge across the Mississippi which opened for us to cross through. The cruise was very nice and the weather was gorgeous..
We ended our day with dinner at the Piggy Historic Restaurant. Sorry No Pictures. The food could have been better but, it was ok.
