Cinco de Mayo
Philadelphia, PA - Albany, NY
Alright...Margarita's..I'm there. Oops not before our travel history for today. We started today traveling to my old home town of Reeders, PA. My parents owned a Chinese Restaurant here in the 70's. Along with the restaurant were 5 Cottages in the back, a BIG red barn and a swimming pool. It was amazing how so much of the memories came back to me when we arrived. It's now Bart's Bar & Grill. Unfortunately, it did not open till 3:00pm and we arrived at 11:00am. Trying to get anyone, I called the number on the sign, with no one answering, I saw a gentleman in one of the cottages who spoke with me but, didn't seem to know much. The cottages look like run down rentals, the barn is in disrepair and the pool is not longer there. As we were leaving town, there was a Lion Club breakfast happening at the Volunteer Fire Dept. We stopped and were able to speak with one of the Lion's members. He knew just the right person for us to talk with. He called and unfortunately had to leave a message and by the time we left, he did not return his call. I left my cell number but, never heard back. My memories will be just memories.
When we arrived in the state of NY, we stopped at the welcome center to get our New York map.
We continued on to our final destination for the day, Albany, NY. (NY Capital). Checked into our hotel and took Uber to a recommended Mexican Restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. What a happening place. Excellent food, drinks, service and ambiance.
Since we ate and drank to much, so we thought it would be good to walk back to our hotel (1.5 miles). Along the way we decided to take pictures. It's our FREE tour of Albany at Night. While I was taking pictures of this building that drew an interest to me, a gentleman asked me if I was going to buy the building. HA HA!! I responded by say NO, we are just 'Tourist" and I thought this building was very unique. He continued to tell us about the building which was once owned by (one legged) Peter Stuyvesant. Peter is dated back to the 1500's and to make to story short, he lost his leg in April 1644 when he led an attack on the Portuguese Island of St. Martin and was badly wounded.. He returned to Holland and there one of his legs was amputated. He wore a wooden leg with silver bands. He returned to New York where he resided as an entrepreneur till his death.
We continued through the city and captured these beautiful pictures. Of course the most impressive was of the Capitol Building.
We made it!!! Our Hotel Room is just within a close vision view of the Capitol.
