May 13, 2019 - Monday
New Haven, CT - Centre Island, NY

Today we are set off to visit our friends, Sydney & Bob who live in Centre Island, NY.  Sydney advised us to take the ferry across to avoid the "New York" traffic.  We arrived in Bridgeport, CT harbor at 11:00am for our Noon departure.  The weather has been rainy, cold and windy.  I was feeling nervous about Tessie being placed on the Ferry.  But, they gave her a great spot and did well.  It was a little over an hour on the Ferry and we arrived in Port Jefferson.

Hungry for lunch, we ate at a recommended restaurant from Sydney, The Danford's House, located just in the harbor.  They have an outside seating area but, the weather prevented us from being able to enjoy.  Ordered Ahi appetizer, Fish & Chips for lunch and Homemade Oreo Bread Pudding (John's favorite dessert).  The view a nice, the food and service was excellent.

With time to spare after lunch we decided to drive to the Sagamore Hill Nat'l Historic Site.  Unfortunately, the museum is closed on Mon & Tue. so not tour today.

Sydney texted me a few addresses to check out before we arrived at her home.  This on is Mrs Von Bothmer.  She is one of richest women in the world and sole heir to the Exxon fortune.

We then drove to Billy Joel's place which you could not see his house from the road but his gate was monogrammed with "Middle Sea".  Get it??? Centre Island is located in the middle of the sea.  HA  He is also Sydney and Bob's neighbor.
We arrived at Sydney and Bob's, Sydney greeted us into the beautiful home with a fire glowing in the fireplace.  After getting settled in for our 4 day stay, she served us with a appetizer meat board and some drinks.  We sat around enjoying our appetizer and talking about our trip around the fire with her till Bob came home.  Bob works for AMC in Manhattan which takes him a little over an hour to get home by train.  Once Bob came home, we enjoyed Pizza and Lasagna for dinner and a rich chocolate cake for dessert looking out to Oyster Bay.  They helped us plan our next day in New York City...here we come.
